Background

The Forum is comprised of the Executive Directors of the First Nations Child and Family Service Agencies around the province of British Columbia.  The Forum addresses child and family services issues that impact First Nations communities. Meetings are held with the assistance and technical support of the Caring for First Nation Children Society, and funding from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

In partnership with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), the Forum has, in the last nine years seen the development of:

In all, 124 Bands, plus the Nisga’a Lisims Government communities, are now receiving services from First Nations delegated service providers. This is from a total of 198 First Nations communities in British Columbia with a population of 109,500 (Source: INAC BC Region population counts of registered members on and off reserve). It is anticipated that the number of First Nations peoples receiving child welfare services from First Nations Child and Family Service Agencies (FNCFSA) will significantly increase in the future.
